OUR STORY
Abous Us
New Negress Film is a digital space devoted to the study, documentation, and celebration of Black women’s filmmaking and experimental cinema. We exist to uplift voices and practices that challenge mainstream film culture while building community around independent and radical storytelling.
This platform is rooted in a tradition of collective filmmaking—one that values collaboration, cultural memory, and creative autonomy. Our work engages cinema not simply as entertainment, but as a site of resistance, imagination, and historical preservation. We highlight projects that push formal boundaries, embrace experimental methods, and reflect the lived realities of marginalized communities.
Through writing, visual media, and documentation, New Negress Film functions as both an archive and a living conversation. We share essays, reflections, artist features, and critical responses that examine film as a cultural practice shaped by history, identity, and collective experience.
Our commitment is to artists who create outside traditional industry pathways and to audiences who seek cinema that is thoughtful, challenging, and transformative. We believe storytelling holds the power to reshape cultural narratives, reclaim histories, and imagine futures that are more just and expansive.
This space honors the past, supports the present, and invests in the future of independent filmmaking grounded in community care and artistic freedom.
